Being a health care worker is a huge talent in itself, but their skills even go beyond that.
On Tuesday evening, doctors, nurses, and others from the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) community will step onto the stage in Montreal’s Beanfield theatre –- performing for a good cause at the third annual MUHC’s Got Talent.
“It was an event that everybody loved so much,” said Tarah Schwartz, Vice President of Communications, Marketing & Events at the MUHC Foundation. “We just had to keep it going.”
“It’s inspiring because when the community rallies for a cause,” said Schwartz. “It means that everybody cares about it.”
“And that’s what’s beautiful about this event.”
Also beautiful, the energy at the final rehearsal on Monday.
Modelled after the hit TV show, the one-night event has raised over $1,000,000 since its creation by the MUHC Foundation in 2022.
“Health care workers, patients getting up on stage, raising money for causes that are close to their hearts,” explained Schwartz. “I mean, what could be more inspiring?”
Inspiring like this McGill University Microbiology & Immunology PhD student performing in support of the MUHC’s Centre for Microbiome Research.
“I’m so happy,” said Clara MacMahon. “I’m so excited to be here.”
“It’s such a fun event,” she added. “My about to not be so hidden talent is that I love to dance.”
“I started dancing Latin dance, so salsa, bachata, just over two years ago now.”
The sold-out crowd will enjoy their performance and more like the POWERHub choir raising funds to support personalized heart care or the Lung Dancers – supporting the Montreal Chest Institute who we danced with back in July at their first rehearsal.
Multiple monetary prizes are ready to be awarded, benefitting each winner’s cause.
From judges choice, to popular vote.
“We need your support,” said Schwartz. “You can go on to talent.muhcfoundation.com, look through the people who are getting up on this stage.”
“It takes a lot of bravery to get up there,” she added. “Look through the different to acts, and just vote for your favourite”
Every $1 donation = 1 vote.
And all eight acts are ready to rock the stage.
“When you come and you see it, you’re like, wow, I want to be there for that,” said Schwartz. “I want to be a part of it, and that’s what we want.”
