Hydration Tips For Karwa Chauth: Expert Shares Tips To Maintain Glowing Skin While Fasting

Karwa Chauth, a significant Hindu festival celebrated by married women in India, is a day dedicated to seeking marital harmony and the well-being of their husbands. This auspicious occasion involves observing a strict Nirjala Vrat, a fast without water from sunrise to moonrise.

Tips To Maintain Glowing Skin While Fasting

While this tradition holds deep cultural importance it can also present challenges to hydration levels, especially considering the long duration of the fast. Hence, to ensure optimal hydration and maintain overall health during Karwa Chauth, it’s essential to adopt specific strategies. We spoke to our expert Dr Shashi Kiran AR, Consultant, Dermatology, Cosmetology, and Dermatosurgery – Kauvery Hospitals, Bangalore and here are effective tips to maintain your skin’s glow while observing the fast she shared with us.

2. Use a Hydrating Mist

Keep a hydrating facial mist nearby. “Spritzing your face with a refreshing mist throughout the day can help keep your skin hydrated and combat dryness,” she adds. Look for mists with ingredients like rose water or aloe vera, which can soothe and nourish your skin.

3. Limit Caffeine and Sugary Drinks

While some women prefer a cup of tea, coffee, or sugary drink, try avoiding caffeinated beverages, as they can dehydrate your body. Instead, focus on herbal teas or infused waters. These options will keep you hydrated without causing moisture loss.

4. Practise Deep Breathing

Stress can dehydrate your skin. Take breaks to practise deep breathing exercises. This can help you relax and maintain your skin’s vitality.

5. Cool Compresses

“If your skin feels hot or irritated, apply a cool compress,” Dr Shashi suggests. This can help calm and soothe your skin, reducing redness and inflammation. As a result, your skin will look and feel refreshed.

6. Mindful Movement

Engage in gentle activities like stretching or light yoga. This promotes blood circulation, enhancing your skin’s glow without exhausting yourself.

Bonus Tip – Rest and relaxation: “Ensure you get enough rest and sleep to help your body cope with the demands of fasting,” Dr Shashi concludes.

By incorporating these hydration strategies into your Karwa Chauth observance, you can significantly contribute to maintaining healthy skin and overall well-being. Remember, hydration is a cornerstone of good health, regardless of cultural or religious practices.
